Packaging

The packaging industry is one of the largest consumers of industrial adhesives. Everything from car parts to frozen food comes in a package. Whatever the product, manufacturers need the right adhesives for their packaging materials.

Plastic Packaging – Bond strength is usually the most important consideration and UV curable adhesives are suitable for a range of plastic packaging. Epoxy-based adhesives provide more flexibility. Pressure sensitive hot melts are also used to bond plastic materials.

Paper Packaging – Water-based, solvent based and hot melts are the most suitable adhesives for use in paper packaging such as corrugated boxes, paperboard and paper bags.

Foam Packaging – For foam with smooth surfaces pressure-sensitive adhesives are preferable. They have a long open time, strong peel and shear characteristics. For corrugated foam surfaces hot melt adhesives are best because of their heat stability, wet tack and long open time.

Aluminium Packaging – Aluminium used for packaging such as soft-drink cans allows adhesives to retain all of their bond strength. Epoxy-based adhesives are able to withstand exposure to acids, solvents and bases. The incredibly strong bond created by polyurethane reactive hot melts make them a good adhesive for aluminium packaging.

Whether sticking labels or inserting products in a case or carton, the packaging adhesives ensure items are packed safely and securely until they arrive at their destination.
